TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia has congratulated France and its people on a safe and peaceful election, the Foreign Ministry spokesman Arrmanatha Nasir.
“Indonesia congratulates Emmanuel Macron on winning the highest number of votes,” he said.
He stressed that Indonesia is hopeful that Macron’s victory will boost bilateral relations between the two countries.
Emmanuel Jean-Michel Frédéric Macron won the French election runoff on Sunday.
Polling agencies have projected that Macron, a pro-European centrist, have won 65 percent votes.
The former civil servant, banker defeated his contender, a far-right candidate, Marie Le Pen.
