TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Non-oil and gas industries posted 4.71 percent growth in the first quarter of 2017.
The growth is higher compared to that of the same period in 2016 which was 4.51 percent and to that of the overall year of 2016 at 4.42 percent.
“We try to keep this rising momentum, in which previously production of manufacture industry grew and currently Gross Domestic Product (GDP) also shows a positive development. We expect industrial growth in the next quarter will be even better,” Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto said in Jakarta on Friday, May 5.
Based on data from Central Statistics Agency (BPS), industrial sectors that show significant growth in the first quarter of 2017 are pharmaceutical industry and traditional medicine as much as 8.34 percent, food and beverage industry as much as 8.15 percent, rubber, rubber based and plastic based products as much as 7.52 percent, and leather, leather products and footwear as much as 7.41 percent.
The next biggest contributor to national economic growth is non-oil and gas processing industry compared to other sectors. BPS recorded that non-oil and gas industry contributed 18.08 percent in the first quarter of 2017.
Meanwhile, coal and oil and gas mining industry contributed 2.39 percent, which makes the total contribution of oil and gas, as well as non-oil and gas, processing industry to the total GDP in the first quarter of 2017 to reach 20.48 percent.
