TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - Tangerang regency in West Java still lacks 2,078 classrooms this year, especially for public elementary schools.

"This condition is caused by the admission of new students that continues to increase ever year while the number of classrooms does not increase accordingly,” said Tangerang Regent Ahmed Zaki Iskandar in Tangerang regency on Friday (28/4).

Ahmed added that regency government is now taking steps to increase the number of classrooms by using the 2017 regional budget of the regency. According to him, there are currently 7,709 classrooms available in the regency while the number of classrooms needed is 9,787 classrooms unit.

To cover the lack of classrooms, Ahmed said the local government would build around 2,000 new classrooms this year. In addition, he added that due to this condition, the Education Agency has decided to split classes into two periods: morning class and afternoon class.

Districts that experience lack of classrooms include Cikupa, Balaraja, Pasar Kemis, Rajeg, Sepatan, Kosambi, Mauk, and Sukadiri.
