TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will provide an update on the status of the investigation into the issuance of release and discharge letters for Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance (BLBI). The KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said that the agency has collected evidence and questioned witnesses over the case. The KPK last week questioned former chief economic minister Kwik Kian Gie.

“The process carried out last week was a follow up on the previous process [circa 2014-2015] when several individuals were questioned,” Febri said yesterday, April 24.

The KPK plans to announce the results and the status of the investigation into the BLBI case. “The status and detailed information on the investigation of the case will be announced tomorrow,” he said yesterday.

A source said that the KPK will upgrade the status of BLBI case from preliminary investigation to investigation. The KPK will name suspect(s) in the case. An individual that is likely to be named suspect is a former official of the National Bank Restructuring Agency (BPPN). “For violating the laws and misuse of authority,” the source said.

In the investigation into the BLBI case, the KPK has questioned cabinet ministers for the 2001-2004 term, including former state-owned enterprises minister Laksamana Sukardi, former BPPN head I Putu Gede Arya Suta, former chief economic minister Dorojatun Kuntjoro-Jakti and former finance minister Bambang Subiyanto.

The release and discharge letters were issued by the BPPN based on the Presidential Instruction No. 8/2002 during Megawati administration, following recommendations by Boediono, Dorodjatun Kuntjoro-Jakti and Laksamana Sukardi.

Ahead of the replacement of KPK leadership for the 2011-2015 term, a case presentation was held over the BLBI case which resulted in a recommendation to prosecute several individuals. However, the investigation warrant (sprindik) has yet to be issued as of press time.
