TEMPO.CO, Bekasi - The Jakarta-Cikampek toll road is packed with vehicles during the long weekend. It was predicted that the vehicle volume in the toll road increased by 7 percent.
“Tonight is the peak of the homecoming flow during the long weekend,” M. Icksan Kartika, spokesperson of the Cikampek branch of toll road operator Jasa Marga, said on Friday, April 21, 2017.
Based on CCTV observation at the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road communication center at 18:15, the congestion was started from Cikunir to West Bekasi.
“Although the traffic is congested, vehicles run with a speed of 30-40 kilometers per hour,” Icksan added.
The traffic from West Bekas to Cikarang Utama was smooth. There are up to 10 vehicles lining up at each Cikarang Utama toll gate. The number of vehicles was predicted to reach 93,543, increasing by 7 percent compared to that on a regular day at 87,205 vehicles.
Jasa Marga took anticipative measures to prevent traffic jam on the toll road, including deploying toll road police personnel, providing toll road services, rod repairs, toll road cleaning services, lighting, and quick responses team. Jasa Marga will also open and close rest areas in case of a congestion.
Denny Chandra Irawan, Jasa Marga’s deputy general manager of maintenance service management, said that a number of activities could cause congestions including light rapid transit project developments and road constructions for the Jakarta-Cikampek Elevated toll road project.
