TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government invites the United States to have bilateral agreements in the creative and digital industries. Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (Kadin) Rosan P. Roeslani said the governments of Indonesia and the United States are committed to extend bilateral partnerships that are mutually beneficial.

Rosan said that he and five other stakeholders have spoken directly with US Vice President Mike Pence to increase opportunities for cooperation in trade and investment.

"We have stated that we are open to (cooperation), especially in the field of film distribution and creative industries, which are sectors that need investments from America," Rosan said at the Shangri La Hotel in Jakarta, Friday, April 21.

Rosan said that the US is committed to cooperate in pushing the digital economy in Indonesia in both funding and technical terms.

"It was also conveyed that we will begin withholding informal and formal talks towards a bilateral free trade agreement between Indonesia and the United States," Rosan said.

According to Rosan, in recent years the average US investment in Indonesia reached between US$1 billion and US$1.3 billion. America is Indonesia's fifth biggest investor. However, 90 percent of that figure is invested in the mining sector.
