TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Quick count results released by pollsters show that Jakarta Gubernatorial candidate pair number three Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno will succeed Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok and Djarot Saiful Hidayat.
According to Ahok, Anies and Sandi would not need to form a transition team related to the succession, as employees at the Jakarta Provincial administration are civil servants.
“We’ll welcome Anies and Sandi if they request data. This is not a presidential election. I think there’s no need for a transition period or such,” Ahok said at Pullman Hotel in Jakarta on Wednesday April 19, 2017.
Ahok pointed out that the new Jakarta governor would have to wait for eight month before changing the organization of the Jakarta administration.
“This is a regional head election, and there are rules about civil servants. [New governor] cannot immediately change the organization. Based on regulations, after eight months since being inaugurated [as new governor], new staff can be inaugurated,” Ahok explained.
Ahok added that he has at least six months to finish all programs initiated by the Jakarta administration, before the new governor is inaugurated.
“We hope that we can work fast with our programs. Therefore, Anies and Sandi can have a good start. Congratulations to Anies and Sandi and to their campaign team. We have a shared goal. We want to improve Jakarta, because Jakarta is our home,” Ahok said.
