TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) secretary-general Hasto Kristiyanto is confident that Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, also known as Ahok, and Djarot Saiful Hidayat can secure 52.4 percent of votes in Jakarta election on Wednesday, April 19, 2017.
According to Hasto, the prediction is not only based on poll results because they tend to be carried out in favor of a certain candidate. Hasto said that the figure came out after an internal mapping conducted by PDI-P, combined with poll results and other data samples.
Based on the sample, Hasto found a significant factor that could sway the perception of Jakartans into voting for Basuki-Djarot. Moreover, according to Hasto, the incumbents’ performance is appreciated by the public. Those are good enough reasons for the PDI-P to believe that the pair will garner over 51 percent.
Earlier, Jakarta-based pollster Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) revealed that Basuki-Djarot's electability rating was only 46.9 percent, below that of Anies-Sandi at 47.9 percent.
Hasto said that he was focused on winning the hearts of all Jakarta areas for Basuki-Djarot. "All areas are equally important, including the Seribu Islands. For us, even one vote can decide Jakarta's future," Hasto said.
