TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing plans on revitalizing a number of houses through a program called Self-Help Housing Stimulant Program or BSPS to reduce the number of uninhabitable houses that are located in West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
The Ministry’s Director General of Housing Provisions, Syarif Burhanuddin, expects that the ministry will be able to renovate 110,000 houses that are deemed uninhabitable. They have improved the quality of 97,888 housing units through the BSPS program in 2016, which includes the construction of 1,007 units of newly built houses.
“Our BSPS program this year in West Manggarai will renovate 1,077 houses. As many as 839 houses will be renovated using the state budget, while [the renovation of] 238 houses will be funded through a specially allocated funding,” he said Wednesday, April 19, 2017.
Syarif explains that the government will be coordinating with village heads, district and provincial governments to optimize the program. The form of the assistance will depend on the people’s needs.
BSPS receivers are spread across a number of villages in West Manggarai, such as Labuan Bajo, Komodo, and Pasir Panjang. Each will receive Rp15 million for home improvements and another Rp30 million for constructing a new house.
