TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Retail automobile sales are experiencing a decline during the first-quarter of 2017. The sales quantity of a number of automakers has even dropped significantly over 50 percent compared to the same period in the previous year.
The Regional Retail & Head Sales for Astra Credit Company, Rudi Wiseno, stated that the automotive retail industry has reached its peak sales, where sales in 2016 were able to reach 95 percent to 75 percent this year.
Sales Director of PT Astra Honda Motor, Amelia Tjandra, stated that the high volume of bad credits has caused leasing companies to become even more strict and selective in handing out their loans.
“This led to a sluggish credit approval process and decline in retail sales,” Amelia said on Tuesday, April 18, 2017.
The retail sales throughout January-March managed to sell 248,500 units, which is down 5 percent compared to the same period in the previous year. However, the whole sales have increased 280,000 units, increasing 5 percent compared to the same period in 2016.
The Japanese automaker Daihatsu's retail sales throughout January-March reached 44,040 units, increasing 4 percent in the same period of the previous year. Amelia explains that there has been a drop in sales realization. Their retail sales in March sold 15,341 units despite having 19,000 vehicles ordered for the same period.
