TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Minister Wiranto viewed that the second round of the Jakarta Gubernatorial Election went well. Wiranto also called on the public to maintain order and peace.
“We should be grateful that the second round of the Jakarta Gubernatorial Election went very well,” Wiranto said in a press release on Wednesday, April 19, 2017.
Wiranto expressed his appreciation to Jakarta residents for casting their votes in an orderly manner. According to Wiranto, the public managed to maintain security in the capital.
Wiranto also expressed his gratitude to institutions related to the election, such as the Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta) and the Election Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu), for doing a great work. Wiranto also gave credit to the Indonesian Military and the National Police for maintaining security at polling stations.
“There were small incidents, but I think it’s reasonable and common for any regional elections anywhere,” Wiranto said.
Wiranto pointed out that victory and defeat are common in a political contest. Therefore, Wiranto called on the losing side to accept the results.
“The winner must also demonstrate a statesmanship attitude and refrain from doing excessive things,” Wiranto suggested.
Based on quick count results released by pollsters, candidate pair number three Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno is leaving rival candidate pair Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok and Djarot Saiful Hidayat. Anies-Sandi managed to gain more than 50 percent of votes, while Ahok-Djarot gained about 40 percent of votes.
