TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - China-based tech firm Vivo is planning to build a Research and Development (R&D) center in Jakarta, Indonesia.
PT Vivo Mobile Indonesia Peter Wang said on Monday, April 17, in Bandung that the company shares the same opinion as U.S.-based tech giant Apple, who also plans to build an R&D center in Indonesia, that Indonesian market is key.
Peter said that the R&D center, which will be built in Jakarta, will become Vivo’s eight innovation center after it built four in China, two in the United States and one in South Korea.
Peter said that Indonesia has the potential to become a leading country in Southeast Asia. He pointed to the country’s rapid economic growth. He said that Vivo plans to invest in Indonesia for many years to come. “The industries are more mature here,” Peter said.
Vivo’s plan to build an innovation center is aimed at meeting the domestic component level (TKDN) of 40 percent.
The company will be reaching 32 percent TKDN this year, Peter said.
