TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian revealed that the police will deploy 65,000 of its personnel to secure Jakarta runoff election on Wednesday, April 19, 2017. They consist of a number of joint forces from the Indonesian National Police, Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and Civil Defense.

The TNI and Police, according to Tito, will deploy 35,000 personnel. “That’s an ample force, more than what we mobilized for the 212 Rally and the others,” he said on Monday, April 17, 2017.

Each voting station in Jakarta will be guarded by one police personnel, one TNI member, and the Civil Defense. “I have coordinated with the TNI Commander and the Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, in order to mobilize backup personnel if needed,” Tito explained.

He further explained that the police force does not want any mass group concentrated in a voting station that already has its own scrutiny system, who consist of the election supervisory committee, election supervisory board, witnesses, independent supervisor, and the media.

There will be 13,034 voting stations across Jakarta at the second phase of this year’s Gubernatorial Election.

The second phase of the 2017 Jakarta Gubernatorial Election campaign has entered its quiet period. The candidate pairs competing in the election are Basuki Tjahaja Purnama - Djarot Saiful Hidayat better known as Ahok - Djarot and Anies Baswedan - Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno or Anies – Sandi.
