TEMPO.CO, Mataram - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Chapter expects the police to investigate into Steven Hadi Suryo, the man who allegedly scolded NTB Governor TGH Zainul Majdi, at Changi Airport, Singapore.
“After a meeting with the representatives of all Muslim organizations in NTB [West Nusa Tenggara], we have decided to make a statement asking the police to investigate into the case,” MUI NTB secretary Abdul Rahman Kuling said in Mataram on Sunday, April 16, 2017.
The statement letter, Kuling said, has been submitted to NTB Police chief Brig. Gen. Firli in Mataram. The meeting was attended by representatives of major Muslim organizations in NTB, such as the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Muhammadiyah, Nahdlatul Wathan (NW) Pancor and the Inter-religious Harmony Forum (FKUB).
Kuling said that police should address the issue to calm people down. According to him, the alleged insult was committed by Steven Hadi Suryo to NTB Governor during a check-in queue at Changi Airport Singapore. “We see it not as an offense subject to complain but a criminal offense. It is, therefore, incumbent on the police to investigate into it,” Kuling said.
West Nusa Tenggara Governor Muhammad Zainul Majdi said he was shocked when Steven Hadi Suryo scolded him for allegedly jumping the check-in queue for Batik Air at Changi Airport on Sunday afternoon, April 9, 2017. The governor was on his way home after visiting his daughter in Singapore.
“I and my wife just said Istighfar (seeking forgiveness from Allah),” Zainul Majdi said after he bid farewell to the participants of Tour de Lombok Mandalika on Sunday, April 16, 2017.
Steven Hadi Suryo has issued an apology to Zainul in a letter affixed with a stamp duty and signed on Sunday, April 9, 2017. The letter has been circulated on social media.
Steven has also expressed his gratitude to Zainul for dropping the charges against him. “I have realized that my words were against the principles of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia and the 1945 Constitution. I promise not to say anything that would divide the nation,” he stated in the letter.
