TEMPO.CO, Mesuji - Residents in Mesuji regency, Lampung province, were forced to use firewood following the rising price and scarcity of subsidized 3-kilogram liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) canisters in the regency.
Eli, a housewife at the regency, said it was difficult for her to find those LPG canisters in the market. As a result, she was forced to find firewood to faraway villages due to the scarcity of the LPG canisters.
"We found it difficult to find 3-kilogram liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) canisters. So we have to cook by using firewood or find another alternative," Eli said.
Jumaidi (45), a 3-kilogram liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) canister retailer at the regency, confirmed that there has been LPG scarcity in the regency. He added that 3-kilogram liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) canisters sold by Jumadi reaches Rp50,000 per canister while previously it was sold at Rp22,000 per canister.
