20 Illegal Indonesian Migrant Workers Arrested in Malaysia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Consulate confirmed that dozens of illegal Indonesian migrant workers (TKI) were arrested by Merin Tawau Police of Sabah, Malaysia on April 13, 2017.
Indonesian Consulate in Tawau Krisnha Djaelani through his short message on Saturday (15/4) stated that 20 illegal TKI were arrested by marin police, Malaysia when they entered the country without using a legal immigration document (passport).
The migrant workers, consisting of 11 men and 9 women, were captured when Merin police held a patrol in Wallace Bay of Sebatik Island (Malaysia). The police spotted a suspicious boat coming from Nunukan heading to Kalabakan area of Sabah at 04.50 local time.
Once this case was revealed, he sent a letter to Marin Tawau police to meet the workers and provide protection.
"Indonesian Consulate in Tawau has requested access to meet the workers, but no access has been granted," Krisnha Djaelani said. He intends to offer legal aid as soon as he gains approval from the police.
