TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Flash floods followed by landslides hit several villages in Lawe Sigala-gala and Seumadam districts in Southeast Aceh. The floods were caused by intense rain that showered the area.
The Government of Aceh's head of public relations, Mulyadi Nurdin, said that according to reports on Wednesday, April 12 the floods have killed one person while another is still missing.
"We are still searching for victims and survivors," Mulyadi told Tempo.
The flood killed 80-year-old Boru Panjaitan, a resident of West Lawe Sigala. The missing victim is an 8-year old from the village of Lawe Tua.
The flash floods and landslides also destroyed 15 houses. Some residents have evacuated to take shelter at a mosque.
According to Mulyadi, the Southeast Aceh's Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has sent heavy equipment to clear the landslide rubble that piled up a blocked the main roads. Logistic help is also prepared for people affected by the disaster.
