TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono said that two individuals attacked the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Novel Baswedan on Tuesday morning, April 11, 2017. Argo said that police have yet to identify the perpetrators who rode a motorcycle in the attack.
“There were two [people], one threw [hydrochloric acid] and the other drove the motorcycle,” Argo told Tempo this morning.
According to Argo, the incident took place at 5:10. Novel was heading home having performed the early morning prayer at a mosque in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta when suddenly the two perpetrators in a motorcycle attacked him.

“The perpetrator threw hydrochloric acid into his face,” Argo said. The perpetrators left the scene immediately after the attack.
The attack left Novel with a wound to the left eyelid and a bump on his forehead after hitting a tree. He was later admitted to Mitra Keluarga Hospital in Kelapa Gading for treatment.

Novel is a senior investigator of the KPK. He had been at the receiving end of terror attacks. Last year he was hit by a car while riding a motorcycle toward his office in Kuningan, South Jakarta.
Novel is currently investigating a mega-corruption in the electronic identity card or e-KTP project.
