TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency Suhardi Alius expressed his comments on the spreading of radicalism ideology among students in Cilacap. Suhardi asserted that there has to be a strategic effort, both by the central and regional government to prevent radicalism, such as improving school curriculum.
"We had met with the Education Minister at the [National Security Agency]. [We] requested subjects on nationality characters and ethics to be included with different methodology. It is not a doctrin, but to develop empathy among students and make them understands the diversity of their country," Suhardi said on Monday, April 10, 2017.
Another step that can be taken, according to Suhardi, is to verify curriculum being used in different regions to prevent them from being infiltrated by radical teachings. SUhardi added that there should also be an evaluation or competence test applied on teachers to identify possibly radical teachers.
"We also noted that in Depok, there was an early child education center [that included radical teachings] so we have to be cautious," Suhardi said.
Previously, the Religious Tolerance Forum (FKUB) in Cilacap discovered the spreading of radical teachings among students. FKUB discovered the violation after participating in a deradicalization activities to several schools.
