TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Depok Environment and Sanitation Agency (DLHK) questioned research results on air quality conducted by Greenpeace Indonesia in the period of February-March.
According to Greenpeace, index of dangerous pollutant particulate matter (PM) 2.5 in Depok reached 71.5 micrograms per cubic.
The result is three times as much as the safe treshold determined by World Health Organization (WHO), which is microgram per cubic.
"What method was used?," Depok DLHK Environment Planning Division Head Indra Kusuma said.
Indra observed abnormality of Greenpeace’s results from the characteristics of the sampled areas. Gandul had higher PM index with 71.5 micrograms per cubic than Tambun with 60.3 micrograms per cubic. It did not add up considering that Tambun is an industrial area. Other industrial areas namely Setiabudi (59.4) and Antasari (40.3) also had lower levels.
He further questioned the result of quality standard testing conducted on February 2017 since Gandul reached 132 micrograms and Kukusan had 97 micrograms which were far higher than industrial areas.
