TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Female ulema will hold Indonesia Female Ulema Congress (KUPI) in Cirebon, West Java on 25-27 April 2017.
At least 500 female ulema are estimated to be present in Kebon Jambu Islamic boarding school, Babakan Ciwaringin, Cirebon during the congress.
Head of Congress Supervising Committee Badriyah Fayumi said that this congress serves to affirm the role of and recognize female ulema in solving contemporary problems in Indonesia on public space.
"The purpose of this congress is to establish the existence and the role of ulema in Islamic history in Indonesia," Badriyah said on Sunday (9/4).
She further added that the congress will address a number of issues and the congress will provide recommendations to relevant stakeholders. These issues include sexual violence, under age marriage, damages to nature, social discrepancy, and radicalism.
Congress facilitator Ninik Rahayu said that the congress will also contain International Seminar on female ulema with a number of speakers coming from Pakistan, Afganistan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria.
