A Thousand Liters of Oil Spills into Cibinbin River in Bandung

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Around a thousand liters of lubricating oil belonging to local company PT CGNPM in the sub-district of Padalarang, West Bandung District, spill into Cibinbin River.
Cimahi Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Ade Ary Syam said that the lubricating oil spill was caused by a broken valve cover on the oil storage. The incident took place on March 23.
Police have questioned witnesses from PT CGNOM. “Investigation is ongoing,” Ade said.
He said that that the lubricating oil has polluted the Saguling Dam.
West Bandung Environmental Office director Apung Ahadiyat said that the oil spill has resulted in harvest failure in the village of Laksanamekar.
“Around 2 hectares of paddy fields have been hit by harvest failure. The paddy fields are maintained by 14 heads of household. Nevertheless, the damages have been covered by the company,” Apung said.
He added that the oil cleanup is ongoing.
“There’s a progress. Some 700 liters of oil have been lifted,” he said.
