TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Suhariyanto, said that new tariffs applied for online-based public transportation services and conventional taxis may contribute to the inflation rate in April 2017.
"It may have an effect [towards inflation rate]. Because the tariffs will be higher, but fairer," Suhariyanto said on Monday, April 3, 2017.
However, Suhariyanto said that he cannot predict how much the new tariff will affect the inflation rate. Suhariyanto explained that calculating how much the new tariffs would require the tariff to be implemented in several modes of transportation, for example, online based taxis and conventional taxis.
"We cannot see how much [the new tariffs] will effect [inflation rate]. It will be reflected in [several] transportation groups," Suhariyanto said.
On Monday, April 3, 2017, the BPS announced that there has been a 0.02 percent deflation in March 2017 with a price consumer index of 128.22. Suhariyanto said that the deflation occurred following a reduction in a number of expenses category index, including food expenses (0.66 percent decrease), and the transportation, communication and financial services expenses (0.13 percent decrease).
