TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - March ended with the rupiah depreciating. On Friday, March 31, the rupiah fell for a second day in a row amid the US dollar's power climb.
The Garuda closed Friday with a slight decline of 0.05 percent or 6.0 bps to trade for Rp13,322 per US dollar. Throughout the day, the rupiah was traded between Rp13,316 and Rp13,328 per dollar.
Meanwhile, the US dollar index strengthened by 0,09 percent to 100.500.
Samuel Sekuritas economist Rangga Cipta said the Greenback regained its power following the latest Brexit chapter and America's improving GDP.
For today, April 3, the rupiah is expected to weaken further against the US dollar as other Asian currencies move in varied directions.
The Taiwanese dollar opened the trade with a 0.14 percent decline, while the South Korean won and Malaysian ringgit slipped by 0.09 percent each. On the other hand, the Thai baht and Indian rupee India are going strong, appreciating by 0.15 percent and 0.11 percent.
