TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - East Java provincial government sent two excavators belonging to Bina Marga Technical Management Unit (UPT) in Madiun dan rented another large excavator to mitigate landslide in Banaran village, Pulung sub-district on Saturday (1/04). The incident took place at 06:00 in the morning.
East Java provincial govt spokesperson Benny Sampirwanto said that East Java Disaster Mitigation Agecy Head Sudarmawan and head of East Java Social Affairs Department Sukesi are heading to the disaster site.
Benny explained that based on the statement issued by head of East Java Social Department, there have been 17 victims found dead.
“We hope that other victims can soon be discovered after the excavators have arrived,” he said on Saturday (1/04).
Based on tentative data, those 17 victims are Jadi, Pujianto, Maryono, Siyam, Situn, Tolu, Katemun, Menit, Aldan, Janti, Pita, Nadi, Hengki, Iwan, Iwan, Katemi, Suyono, and Muklas.
Ponorogo Disaster Mitigation Agency had anticipated the landslide and warned the residents. The residents were evacuated to safer grounds at night, but the landslide hit them when they harvested ginger in the morning.
