TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is optimistic that they will be able to prove that Miryam S. Haryani committed perjury in the e-KTP graft case court proceeding. KPK has evidence which shows her complaining that she had been threatened and pressured by her colleagues in the House of Representatives into dodging investigator’s questions.
KPK Chairman, Agus Rahardjo, confirms that Miryam was allegedly pressured by a number of Senayan politicians when she was summoned by KPK. Agus confirmed the possibility that the evidence will be presented in court on Thursday, March 30, 2017. “Yes, we’ll witness it in court,” Agus said on Wednesday, March 29, 2017.
Today’s court proceeding on the e-KTP graft case, will have KPK investigators and Miryam together in the witness seat. This session was initially supposed to take place on Monday, March 27, 2017, but was cancelled because of Miryam’s absence in the court session, caused by an illness she was suffering.
They will be confronted with Miryam’s statement in last week’s court session, where Miryam claims to have been pressured and threatened by KPK investigators throughout the legal proceedings of this graft case. It was reason for Miryam to revoke all of her statements from her interrogation report. She originally confessed to have received and distributed graft money from the defendants of the case and House of Representatives members.
Miryam has yet to provide any response to this allegation. One of her expert staff, Akbar, said that Miryam is currently still recovering from her illness. Akbar confirmed that Miryam will be present in today’s court proceedings.
KPK has also requested immigrations to prevent Miryam from traveling overseas. Which has been effective since last Friday up to the following six months. “We hope Miryam will be honest and deliver a truthful statement,” says KPK spokesman, Febri Diansyah.
