TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry has decided that Soekarno-Hatta’s Terminal 3 will serve international flights on May 1., 2017. "Garuda Indonesia airline will operate international flights," Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said following a meeting on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Soekarno-Hatta Authority office.
Flight authorities in Terminal 3, namely the ministry, flag carrier Garuda Indonesia, state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero), state-owned air traffic service provider Airnav Indonesia and Soekarno-Hatta Airport Authority Office are currently preparing for the international flight operations.
Following the meeting, the Transportation Ministry will give recommendations on April 15, which include the requirements for Terminal 3 to serve international flights.
Garuda Indonesia airline says it needs two weeks to prepare for international flight operations in Terminal 3. Before operations, airport operator, together with the airline and the ministry, will hold simulations of security check to passengers and goods as well as other facilities.
Angkasa Pura II operational director Djoko Murdjatmojo said that preparations for international flights operations in Terminal 3 are 90 percent complete. "We are ready," Djoko said. Garuda Indonesia will gradually move its international flights from Terminal II E to Terminal 3. Thereafter, international airlines affiliated with SkyTeam will gradually operate in Terminal 3.
