TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo, also known as Jokowi, welcomed French President Francois Hollande in front of the Merdeka Palace on Wednesday, March 29, 2017. Indonesia sees Hollande's visit as a historic one.
Hollande's arrival was welcomed by twenty cannon salvos and French national anthem La Marseillaise.
Based on Tempo's observation, President Hollande arrived at the Presidential Palace at around 10:50 AM Western Indonesia Time.
President Hollande also received special welcome from children wearing Indonesian traditional dress while bearing French and Indonesian flags.
Hollande is the first French president to visit Indonesia in the past 30 years. The Indonesian Foreign Ministry has therefore said that the visit is a historical milestone.
President Hollande and President Jokowi will discuss bilateral cooperation in maritime affairs, creative economy, infrastructure, and energy, among others.
