TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - At least one person was killed and dozens were injured after two boats carrying food commodities collided.
The acccident happened in waters off Bali's Nusa Penida island, between Nusa Lembongan Island and Nusa Ceningan Island on Friday (24/3).
"The dead victim was identified as Ni Nengah Sarwi (55) from Kutampi Kaler village, Nusa Penida," said Chief of Nusa Penida Sector Police Commisioner Police I Ketut Suastika on Saturday.
In the meantime, six people injured in the accident were identified as Ni Ketut Sipi (59), Ni Ketut Sanita (18), Ni Kadek Suwastini (21), Ni Wayan Retin (65), Unik Erawati (19) and Ni Wayan Wati (54).
The accident happened when one of the boats, which is smaller than the other one, did not see a boat coming from the opposite direction because the view was blocked by a basket.
Suddenly, one of the passengers in the smaller boat shouted at the captain, warning against a boat from the opposite direction and the captain tried to abruptly change the direction of the boat but to no avail.
The collision could not be avoided and tue smaller boat sank.
