TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - The flow of foreign nationals in Yogyakarta is considerably high. As many as 290 foreigners in average arrive at Adisutjipto Airport every day. Meanwhile, an average of 293 foreigners check through customs and depart through this airport.
“We are restricting the presence of foreigners in Yogyakarta,” said the Head of Yogyakarta Immigration Office, Didik Heru, on Thursday, March 23, 2017.
According to him, the foreigners visiting Yogyakarta divided into students, workers, and businessmen. The restriction is aimed at suppressing immigration-related violations in a number of aspects, such as limited stay permits, permanent residency, and passport.
Foreigners will receive legal sanctions if they misuse their tourist permit to work and receive any form of pay in Yogyakarta. “Even receiving a mere Rp100,000 for working here without a working visa is considered a violation,” he explained.
Based on immigration’s records, in January and February 2017, there were 437 foreigners that have received a limited stay permit. Other nine foreigners obtained a permanent residency, meanwhile, 212 foreigners submitted a conversion, and four foreigners must conduct a legal process regarding immigration violations.
According to Yogyakarta administration, as many as 17,101 foreigners arrived in Yogyakarta throughout January – February 2017, through Adisutjipto Airport. Meanwhile, as many as 17,277 foreigners left the region in the same period.
Yogyakarta immigrations, according to Didik, have introduced an application to report foreigners called APOA. The managements of hotels, apartments, company dorms, and other types of commercial homestays are legally required to report to immigrations through www.apoa.imigrasi .go.id.
