TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said that the government would take three steps to deal with MV Caledonian Sky cruise ship, which recently ran aground and caused damage to coral reefs in Raja Ampat, Papua.
"There are three steps to be taken. The first one is to evaluate the damage. It's in progress now," Luhut said at his office in Jakarta after meeting UK Ambassador to Indonesia Moazzam Mallik on Friday, March 17, 2017.
The second step, Luhut went on, is related legal actions to be taken by the government. Luhut viewed that the Caledonian Sky issue was complicated.
Luhut explained that the cruise vessel was operated by a Swedish company, and the captain holds a British passport. However, Luhut added, the captain lives in the US and the tickets are sold in the UK.
Luhut continued that the last step was related to prevention measures in the form of regulations. Luhut revealed that the damage to the coral reefs is currently being analyzed by a joint team.
Luhut said that there will be other talks with related parties, in addition to the UK Ambassador. Luhut said that his ministry has collected data on the damages.
