TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police (Polri) signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Land Agency (BPN) in an attempt to eradicate land mafia, illegal levies, and certification of Polri's assets.
The signing was done by National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian and Chief of the BPN and Land and Spatial Planning Minister Sofyan Djalil.
Until today, according to Sofyan, only four percent of the total number of land in Indonesia have been certified, including government-owned lands, and lands owned by Polri.
"We will accelerate and provide legal certainty through certification. The goal is to have conflict-free lands. Currently, there are so many land conflicts occurring because of many reasons, including land mafia," Sofyan said on Friday, March 17, 2017.
Tito explained that the cooperation was established in accordance with President Joko Widodo, also known as Jokowi, policy to improve public services.
"Some of the points [in the MoU] include eradicating land mafia and illegal levies, especially those related to spatial planning and land issues, and then there is also the certification of Polri's assets," Tito said.
