TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police’s special criminal unit director Sr. Comr. Wahyu Hadiningrat says the police plan to work with the Interpol and the FBI to crack down on online international child pornography ring.

“We will cooperate with the FBI and agencies from other countries. I could not explain the details,” Wahyu told Tempo on Wednesday. The police said that the measures will be taken following the crackdown on a child pornography ring on a Facebook group named Official Loly Candy’s Group 18+.

Wahyu said that the police have arrested four individuals, two of whom are minors and one is a female.

Wahyu added that cooperation with the Interpol will be established because the ring is linked to other porn rings operating in other social media platforms, such as WhatsApp and Telegram. “Around 11 groups allegedly linked to an international ring,” Wahyu said.

According to Wahyu, the groups created by the perpetrators have members from Argentina, the United States and Peru, among others. Having conducted digital forensics examinations, the police found that the Facebook account has uploaded 600 child pornography contents comprising pictures and videos, the police officer says.

“We found 500 videos and 100 pictures on the Facebook account that has now been closed,” Wahyu said. He said that police are conducting cyber patrols to clamp down on the crime.

The police will work closely with the Communication and Informatics Ministry to help educate the wider public about the matter. “For people to be aware of [Facebook] accounts with pornographic contents or otherwise,” Wahyu said.

Earlier, Jakarta Metro Police chief Insp. Gen. Mochamad Iriawan said that the perpetrators had uploaded pornographic contents of underage children on the Facebook account which was created in September 2014.

“In the [Facebook] group, the members communicated with each other, shared and uploaded pornographic pictures and videos of children aged 2-10. There were around seven thousand members,” Iriawan said.
