TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned lender PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk has appointed Indra Utoyo, the director for digital and strategic portfolio of state-owned telecommunication company PT Telkom (Persero) Tbk, as operational director. BRI deputy president director Sunarso said that BRI had chosen Indra considering current digital development.

Sunarso said that BRI must continue to adapt to challenges and changes in the market. “There are no more boundaries between banking and telecommunication of late,” Sunarso said after attending the general meeting of shareholders at the BRI building in Central Jakarta on March 15, 2017.

To face the challenges, BRI is currently focused on developing micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It will also explore financial technology (fintech) business. “For less-expensive pricing, operational efficiency is a must. It will all need anything digital,” he said.

Aside from appointing operational director, the lender with an asset of Rp 1,003 trillion has also named Suparjarto as new president director, replacing Asmawi Syam.

At the commissioner board, Andrinof A. Chaniago has been appointed as president commissioner in place of Mustafa Abubakar. BRI commissioner Ahmad Fuad has been replaced by Nicolaus Teguh Budi Harjanto, whereas Vincentius Sonny Loho, whose term of office had ended, has been reappointed as a commissioner.
