TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has promised to prosecute new suspects in the electronic identity card or e-KTP graft case. The KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said that all individuals named in the indictment were allegedly involved in graft case embroiling two defendants Irman and Sugiharto. “Yesterday’s trial is just the first step,” Febri said yesterday.

According to him, the KPK would not need to await the sentence given to Irman and Sugiarto to start an investigation into new suspects. “Development [of the case] may be carried out concurrently as the trial facts unfold to corroborate the evidence of their involvements,” he said.

Yesterday, the first hearing of e-KTP graft trial was held at the Corruption Court in Jakarta. The alleged graft has caused Rp2.3 trillion in state losses. The KPK’s prosecutors have indicted two defendants, the Home Affairs Ministry officials Irman and Sugiharto.

In a 121-page indictment, Golkar Party chairman Setya Novanto and five individuals together with two defendants were named for alleged unlawful acts, attempt to enrich themselves or others and cause state losses. The other five individuals are businessman Andi Agustinus, chairman of the Government Printing Office-led consortium Isnu Edhi Wijaya, former Home Affairs Ministry secretary-general Diah Anggraini and procurement committee chairman Drajat Wisnu Setyawan.

Moreover, 87 individuals—most of whom are members of the House of Representatives (DPR)—allegedly received money in the deliberations up to the implementation of the project. The KPK, however, has yet to disclose the other 37 individuals, who served as members of the DPR’s Commission II allegedly took money amounting to USD566,000.

Febri said that the KPK had only named those who allegedly played major roles in graft committed by Irman and Sugiharto. Some facts and other evidence were not specified in the case dossier.

DPR speaker Setya Novanto has denied allegations that he had arranged and received money in this project. “In the name of Allah I didn’t take anything,” he said. Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly has also denied receiving USD84,000 (Rp814 million). “I’m shocked that I was named,” Yasonna said. During the e-KTP project, Yasonna served as a member of the DPR’s Commission II from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP).
