TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Protest staged yesterday by angkot minivans in Tangerang against ride-hailing services, known as ojek, turned violent. Police were quick to bring together representatives of angkot minivan and motorcycle-hailing service drivers. Tangerang Police chief Sr. Comr. Harry Kurniawan said that a peace pact has been agreed by the two community.
“A peace [pact have been agreed] and there is no more disagreement between the two community,” Harry told Tempo today.
A clash between angkot minivan and motorcycle-hailing service drivers broke out in Tangerang on Wednesday. Members of the community committed violence against their opposite numbers. An angkot driver, for example, rammed into four ojek drivers, leaving them injured. Ojek drivers responded by vandalizing angkot minivans. “They took place in several locations in Tangerang City,” Harry said.
The Police chief added that one ojek driver was still being treated at a hospital while others have been discharged. As for the acts of violence, Harry had promised to investigate into and prosecute the perpetrators. “But for now, I want all to stay calm and maintain order,” he said.
