Arrest of Perpetrators in Manggarai Mass Street Brawl Imminent

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - South Jakarta Police will soon arrest the perpetrators of a mass street brawl between residents of Jalan Tambak, Central Jakarta and those of Manggarai, South Jakarta, broke out on Sunday.

“There are many of them [perpetrators], dozens,” South Jakarta Police’s criminal investigation unit head Adj. Sr. Comr. Budi Hermanto told Tempo on Wednesday.

Budi said that an investigation into the case is ongoing and police may arrest more suspects who might still be at large.

Budi said that perpetrators allegedly used various weapons in the brawl, including air guns, sharp objects and homemade firearms.

Earlier, a mass street brawl broke out between residents of Tambak, Central Jakarta and those of Manggarai, South Jakarta, on Sunday afternoon. The brawl left two people dead and six wounded. The victims died from gunshot allegedly fired during the incident.

Jakarta Metro Police have been standing guard in the two areas to prevent another brawl.
