TEMPO.CO, Pekanbaru, Riau - Floods have hit five districts in Riau Province, affecting 2,469 homes, as several rivers overflowed their banks following incessant downpour.

The flood-affected districts were Rokan Hulu, Palalawan, Kampar, Kuantan Sangigi, and Indragiri Hulu, Syarifudin, head of the Riau social affairs office, stated here, Saturday.

In Rokan Hulu, floods submerged over 1.9 thousand homes in four villages: Lubuk Ingu and Cipang Kanan in Rokan IV Koto Sub-district and Muara Nikum as well as Surau Munai in Rambah Hilir Sub-district.

The four villages were isolated, as the flooding also destroyed a bridge that connected the villages with other cities.

In Pelalawan, floods affected the villages of Lubuk Kemang Bunga and Air Hitam in Ukui Sub-district.

In Kampar District, floods inundated five villages in Gugung Sahilan Sub-district and Koto Tuo Village in the XIII Koto Kampar Sub-district.

In Kuantan Sangingi, three sub-districts -- Kuantan Mudik, Gunung Toar, and Hulu Kuatan -- were flooded.

In Indragiri Hulu, floods submerged Semelinang Darat in Indragiri Hulu Sub-district and Lubuk Batu Jaya Village in Peranap Sub-district.

Indonesia is currently experiencing rainy season that peaks in late February and March, causing floods in several provinces.
