TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - House of Representatives Speaker Setya Novanto, asked King Salman to pardon Indonesian Migrant Workers having legal issues in Saudi Arabia. Setya Novanto delivered the request through his speech during King Salman's visit to the House of Representatives on Thursday, March 2, 2017.
Setya also asked King Salman and the Saudi Arabian government to find the best solution for problems involving Indonesian Migrant Workers in accordance with the country's laws. "In the name of the Indonesian people, we plead for the mercifulness of the King in bestowing a pardon," Setya said.
Other than problems that involve migrant workers, Setya also spoke about past visit by King Faisal that took place 47 years ago. Setya also mentioned about the partnership between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia in countering terrorism.
Previously, Deputy Chief of Commission IX of the House of Representatives Saleh Partaonan Daulay, suggested that Indonesia should take the opportunity of King Salman's visit to discuss the problems that involve Indonesian Migrant Workers.
Meanwhile, King Salman did not specifically respond to the matters regarding Indonesian Migrant Workers in his speech. The King only stated his gratitude for the support from the Indonesian House of Representatives towards the partnership between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.
