Bandung Bomb Attacker Linked to Terrorist Network: Police Chief

TEMPO.CO, Bandung - West Java Police chief Anton Charliyan said that the suspect of the pressure cooker bomb shot to death in Cicendo, Bandung, was allegedly linked to a terrorist network.
"[The perpetrator] wanted to free detainees held at the Densus [counterterrorism unit]. It's possible that the suspect is a member of an existing [terrorist] network," Anton said in Bandung on Monday, February 27, 2017.
Anton revealed that police found a gun at the scene allegedly belonged to the assailant.
"We found a short barrel gun. We're still finding out the type," Anton added.
Police also found a sharp weapon used by the suspect to threaten village office employees. Anton added that the perpetrator was critical when police brought him down.
Anton admitted that he could not yet confirm the motives behind the bomb attack near the Arjuna Village office.
"There were students doing some exercises when the bomb went off. Luckily they were unaffected," Anton said.
West Java Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus said that the perpetrator detonated the bomb at around 08:30 AM Western Indonesia Time.
"There were evidence indicating that it was a pressure cooking bomb because we found several nails and pellets," Yusri revealed.
