TEMPO.CO, Semarang - The Cap Go Meh celebration, which was initially to be yard of Central Java Great Mosque in Semarang is reportedly to be relocated to another location due to the rejection from a number of Islamic organizations in the city.
Juma’i, Chairman of Muhammadiyah Youth of Semarang Chapter, who is one of those people who reject the event to be held in the mosque, said the celebration was finally relocated to the Semarang City Hall.
“Please celebrate Cap Go Meh but the most important thing is that it must not be held in the mosque,” he said on Saturday (18/2).
On Friday, a number of Islamic organizations in Semarang rejected the celebration held in the mosque on 19 February. They came to the Central Java regional police headquarter a talk.
Juma’I added that on Friday evening a meeting was held between Islamic organization and the Cap Go Meh committee in which one of the agreements was that the celebration would be held at Semarang city hall.
Juma’I added in principle, the organizations do not reject the Cap Go Meh celebration; yet, they raised an objection if the event has to be held near the mosque.
“We have to maintain the dignity of the mosque,” he said.
