PAN to Channel Support for Anies-Sandi

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Dipo Ilham, Deputy Secretary General of the National Mandate Party (PAN) said that PAN is ready to provide support for Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno. Dipo said that the party will begin channeling support if their candidate pair Agus Yudhoyono and Sylviana Murni failed to continue to the Jakarta Gubernatorial election runoff.

However, Dipo said that the party will still wait for an official result from the Jakarta Election Commission. "If the results [show Agus-Sylvi losing], we will certainly support Anies-Sandi in the runoff election," Dipo said on Wednesday, February 17, 2017.

Dipo asserted that it would be more realistic for PAN to support Anies-Sandi because the candidate shared similar missions with Agus-Sylvi. Meanwhile, supporting Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama and Djarot Saiful Hidayat would not be the party's best option because Ahok-Djarot has opposing views with their candidate.

"That is why we have initiated a discussion with the Anies-Sandi campaign team since [Thursday, February 16, 2017] evening," Dipo said.
