TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government temporarily stops against the import of buffalo meat from India. The moratorium is decided following the Constitutional Court's decision on the judicial review of Law No. 41/2014 on tightening import from countries that are not foot and mouth disease free.
The government has also decided not to revise the derivative rules of said law on Husbandry and Animal Health, even though the Court granted parts of the judicial reviews.
"It's firm—it contains all maximum security," The Agriculture Ministry's director general Husbandry and Animal Health I Ketut Diarmita said on February 8.
The MK ruled to tighten animal and animal product imports from countries that are not free from foot and mouth diseases, by enacting terms and conditions as well as requirements, such as in the events of emergency.
Ketut said that the zone-based import scheme can be made possible during certain situations such as national disasters and depleting meat supply.
