TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Democratic Party Chairman, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), said that the case involving Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama is purely a legal case. He also added that the case is not related to certain religion or ethnicity.
“It isn’t an issue that disrupts [unity], not an issue that disrupts the NKRI (the unitary state of the republic of Indonesia),” SBY stated on Tuesday, February 7, 2017.
Although it is purely a legal matter, according to SBY, it has been immensely blown out of proportion by a certain party that intends to politicize the case. It, therefore, has strained relations among people.
He says that the current social and political tension must be ended soon. The Sixth President hopes that people would be generously tolerant, considering that there so many things to do in the future. “Learn the valuable lesson.”
In relation to the alleged blasphemy case involving Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, the former Sixth President of Indonesia urged the public to respect the law enforcement process and court verdict. “Remove any intervention from any party, mass mobilization must be stopped.”
SBY views that physical clash among the people will cause a horizontal clash in the public.
