Seven Boats Deployed to Find Missing TNI Paratrooper

TEMPO.CO, Semarang - Seven boats had been deployed to help find the Indonesian military special forces (Kopassus) personnel missing in the Semarang waters during parachute flight drills on Tuesday, February 7, 2017.

Semarang search and rescue agency (Basarnas) spokesman Maulana Affandi said that its boats, together with those of Central Java Water Police, the Sea Guard, Tanjung Emas Port Administrator had been deployed.

The search and rescue team was split into two groups to comb either the waters or coastal area, according to Maulana. Emergency personnel had faced a bad weather that had lasted in the past few days.

Earlier, 11 Kopassus personnel hold parachute flight drills in the Semarang Waters. Two paratroopers fell into the sea due to bad weather and strong wind.

One paratrooper had been found, but another is still missing. The search operation had been suspended due to unfavorable weather conditions, according to Central Java Diponegoro Military Region commander Major General Jaswandi.
