TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tempo published a new investigation report on corruption convicts that should have been behind bars at Sukamiskin penitentiary in Bandung but are actually freely roaming the city. The convicted criminals Tempo investigated are Romi Herton, Rachmat Yasin, and Anggoro Widjojo. Based on the investigation, Tempo discovered that graft convicts detained at Sukamiskin Penitentiary, Bandung, West Java, can easily get temporary jail-free-pass cards.
They have been using permits to get medical treatment to ravel outside the prison premises. "The Travelers" of Sukamiskin would then go to apartments or rented properties in Bandung without proper escort.
Tempo discovered that former Palembang mayor Roni Herton, a convict in the Constitutional Court (MK) judge Akil Mochtar bribery case often leave the prison to visit a house in Bandung's Antapani Tengah region where second wife lives. Anggoro Widjojo, a graft convict in integrated radio communication system of the Forestry Ministry, was seen visiting Gateway apartment located 3.5 kilometers from Sukamiskin on four occasions. Anggoro returned often later returned to Sukamiskin at night.
Meanwhile, former Bogor Regent Rachmat Yasin, who was involved in a land swap deal was caught going to a rental property in Panorama Alam Parahyangan Complex in late December.
The following are their comments on Tempo's investigation into their travel from Sukamiskin penitentiary:
Romi Herton – former Palembang mayor and suspect in a bribery case involving Constitutional Court (MK) judge Akil Mochtar. Romi was sentenced to seven years in jail and Rp 200 million fine with a subsidiary sentence of two months in jail. Romi also has his rights to vote and rights to be elected for five years revoked. Romi's lawyer Sirra Prayuna said that he "have no idea [about the leave] because I haven't contacted him for a long time."
Rachmat Yasin – former Bogor regent, convicted for receiving a kickback in a land swap deal. Sentenced to five years and six months in prison, Rp 300 million fine with a subsidiary sentence of 3 months in jail. "I cannot explain unless under the prison warden's permission,” Rachmat said.
Anggoro Widjojo – former PT Masaro Radiokom director, convicted for graft in the procurement of integrated radio communication of Forestry Ministry. Sentenced to five years in prison and Rp 250 million fine with a subsidiary sentence of two months in jail. "I'm old; I suffer from a lot of diseases. I get medical treatment for my illness," Anggoro said in a letter.
