TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said that Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignasius Jonan has sent a letter in relation to export duty for exports of mineral concentrates.
Sri Mulyani revealed that the proposal would be implemented through a Finance Minister Regulation.
"We will draft a ministerial regulation within a few days. Before it is issued, I won't make any statement. It will be issued soon because I have read [the draft] last night," Sri Mulyani said at her office in Jakarta on Friday, February 3, 2017.
Earlier, the government issued Government Regulation No. 1/2017 and its implementing regulations, namely Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Regulation No. 5/2017. The regulation includes the fourth amendment to the regulation on mineral and coal mining businesses.
The regulation requires mineral work contract (KK) holders to change their status to holders of special mining business permit and build smelters. Mining companies are also required to pay an export duty of up to 10 percent as a commitment to building smelters.
The regulation allows concentrate exporters to plan their long-term investments. The government can also secure state revenue as a result of the bill issuance.
