TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Ministry's Railway Director General Prasetyo Boeditjahjono said that the feasibility study for the Jakarta-Surabaya railway project will commence in March.
"We want to start the feasibility study as soon as possible. It will be commenced around March," Prasetyo said at the Coordinating Maritime Affairs Ministry in Jakarta on Friday, February 3, 2017.
Prasetyo expected the study to last for up to seven months before it will be followed up with the project's detailed engineering design (DED). In response to a question whether the project involves high-speed or medium-speed trains, Prasetyo said that the government would build normal speed railway because there is no such thing as medium speed train.
"The speed will be slower than 200 kilometers per hour," Praseyo clarified.
Prasetyo added that the government has yet to decide whether the project will include elevated railway constructions. Prasetyo suggested that there would be no railway crossing along the track due to the speed of the train.
Prasetyo said that the feasibility study will be financed by the Transportation Ministry because it would not involve Japanese investors.
