TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-Owned Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno responded to the dismissal of state-owned oil company Pertamina's president and vice president Dwi Soetjipto dan Ahmad Bambang. The minister said the problem of leadership in Pertamina's management is not caused by the organization's structure.
"The way I see it, the problem lies in personality," Rini said in Jakarta Friday, February 3. She apologized to Dwi and Ahmad before making the statement.
According to Rini, leaders' ability is vital in running an institution. A good leader, she said, can work in any type of structure.
Rini mentioned several criticisms against Dwi and Ahmad's leadership, one of them is the company management that is not well-run despite Pertamina's huge responsibilities.
"Pertamina's investment worth reaches Rp700 trillion. That's never before in history," Rini said.
To meet investment targets, Rini said, cooperation must come first. "There are a total of nine people in Pertamina. The company must not be used for the benefit of individuals," Rini stated.
That's why, Rini said, leaders must put aside their personal feelings in order to steer the company to a better direction. "Both [Dwi and Ahmad Bambang] weren't able to do that," Rini explained.
