TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government is set to establish Arun special economic zone (KEK) in Lhokseumawe, Aceh province.
The Aceh provincial government has also expressed its readiness for the development of the special economic zone.
The zone will be developed by local administration-owned company PT Perusahaan Daerah Pembangunan Aceh (PDPA) and three state-owned enterprises, including state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina, state-owned port operator PT Pelindo I, and state-fertilizer producer PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda.
PT. Pertamina will develop oil and gas sector, as well as supporting infrastructures while Pelindo I will handle seaports and logistic issues. Pupuk Iskandar Muda, assisted by PT Pupuk Indonesia Group will develop an environmentally friendly petrochemical industry cluster in the zone.
In the meantime, Pemerintah Daerah Pembangunan Aceh (PDPA) will develop agro-industry sector to support food security.
In a statement on Saturday (21/1), Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution welcomed the idea of establishing the special economic zone. According to Darmin, the zone will give a positive impact for economy in Aceh.
